A practical robotics plan for clubs, schools and sports facilities. Bring grass cutting and line marking into one conversation, with the right equipment for each job.
A multi-sport facility needs more than a single area figure. Use these questions to shape a site review, not as an automatic suitability assessment.
Cricket
Outfield care. A separate plan for the square.
Grass cutting
Review the outfield, boundary areas and access separately from the square. Do not assume an outfield robot is suitable for wicket preparation or the required square finish.
Line marking
Confirm the match format, boundary layout and any crease-marking requirements. Check the chosen robot’s supported templates and working access before recommending it.
Rugby
Plan around the code, the posts and the fixtures.
Grass cutting
Review playing areas, in-goal areas and surrounds, including access around fixed posts. Agree mowing windows around training, matches and other grounds work.
Line marking
Confirm rugby union or rugby league, the age group and the approved pitch layout. Review fixed posts, runoff space and initial marking versus repeat marking.
Football
From training areas to match-day pitches.
Grass cutting
Map each natural-grass pitch and training area, with mowing height, available hours and charging access reviewed individually.
Line marking
Confirm the format and age group, including small-sided pitches and shared training layouts. Agree which lines remain visible when different pitches share the same space.
Gaelic football
Give the full playing area its own plan.
Grass cutting
Review the full grass area, access between pitches and time available between training and fixtures. Size the mowing fleet using usable operating hours, not just total area.
Line marking
Confirm the competition and age-group requirements, fixed goals and intended layout. Verify Gaelic football template support on the specific robot before selection.
Athletics tracks
Separate the grass from the track surface.
Grass cutting
Assess grass infields, surrounds and any grass running areas for mowing. Synthetic track surfaces are outside the mowing scope.
Line marking
Confirm grass or synthetic surface, lanes, distances and event layouts. Synthetic-track paint compatibility and any permanent or certified marking need specialist review; a standard grass-marking robot is not automatically suitable.
Confirm the applicable governing-body rules, dimensions and tolerances before marking. A digital template is not a substitute for approval of the actual layout.
WORK AROUND THE FIXTURE LIST
Plan the work. Protect the playing time.
Look at the whole job: setup, mowing or marking, charging, paint handling, cleaning and moving between pitches. Agree safe working arrangements with the grounds team before operation.
01
Map the site
Separate pitches, outfields, squares, tracks, surrounds and routes. Confirm where each machine may work.
02
Define the requirement
Agree the turf finish, sporting layouts, surface constraints and available working windows.
03
Review equipment and support
Match confirmed model capabilities to the plan. Include setup, training, consumables and ongoing responsibilities.
EQUIPMENT, CHOSEN FOR THE JOB
Mowing robots. Line-marking robots.
Models belong here only when approved for website display and assigned to Sports Pitches in Model Specs. A listing is a starting point for a site review, not a blanket sporting recommendation.
