GARY’S FIELD TEST · GOLF & COMMERCIAL
Gary follows an FJD RM21P through a mapped rough area and explains the conditions he is testing. One real demonstration, not a guarantee for every site or model.

ABOUT SMARTLAWNS
SmartLawns is led by Gary Whitney, whose career spans hands-on machinery servicing, grounds-maintenance operations and senior leadership at STIGA. That combination shapes the way he approaches robotic mowing: start with the people using the equipment, understand the work it needs to do and plan around the realities of the site.
For Gary, choosing a robot is about more than the area printed on the box. Lawn layout, slopes, access, charging and available mowing time all matter, whether you are caring for a garden, managing commercial grounds or supporting a greenkeeping team.
Based in Balsall Common, SmartLawns helps customers across Warwickshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands explore suitable robotic solutions. From initial advice and installation to handover and agreed ongoing support, the aim is straightforward: equipment that fits your needs, backed by someone who understands how it works.
FROM FIRST CONVERSATION TO FIRST CUT
A clear process, with the practical details considered before a robot arrives on site.
Understand your grounds, priorities and the way the space is used.
Match the machine and mowing plan to the work required.
Plan the setup, configure mowing areas and test operation.
Make everyday operation, scheduling and care clear.
Agree the right aftercare and servicing for your installation.
The quotation sets out the equipment, installation work, handover and any agreed support. Site preparation, extra work and optional services should be identified separately. Ask us to talk through the scope before you decide.
We plan the charging position and agreed mowing areas, configure the schedule and check operation on your site. Handover covers the everyday controls, routine care and how to ask for help. The exact setup and any preparation are confirmed in your quotation.
Some edges, obstacles or areas outside the agreed mowing boundary may still need manual work. Cleaning, blade care and seasonal servicing remain part of ownership. We discuss these practicalities rather than promising a maintenance-free lawn.
Contact SmartLawns with the model and a description of the issue so we can discuss the next step. Warranty cover depends on the manufacturer’s terms and the circumstances. Servicing, winter care, call-outs or remapping are not automatically included: the scope and any charges must be agreed.
Requirements vary by model and installation. Ask us to identify any connectivity or subscription costs, consumables, replacement batteries and optional aftercare when discussing your quotation. No ongoing-cost allowance is assumed here.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS
No. Start with your grounds and what you want to achieve. A suitable recommendation follows a review of the site, rather than choosing a model first.
Area is a starting point. Layout, slopes, access, mowing frequency, charging and the hours available also need to be considered.
Yes. Describe the areas and how they connect. A site review can consider routes, charging locations and whether one robot or a fleet is appropriate.
